In addition to group activities, participants meet once a month via the Online Interview Series, which is a virtual platform for groups to host a fireside chat with their Mentor on topics related to careers and mentoring.  So far this year, online interviews have been held with Melanie van Leeuwen, Stefano Azzali, Klaus Sachs, Maria Hauser-Morel (stepping in for Inka Hanefeld), James Castello, Yves Fortier, Kevin Kim and Niuscha Bassiri.  In the remainder of the year, groups will interview Maxi Scherer, Mohamed Abdel Raouf, John Fellas, Carine Dupeyron, Oliver Caprasse and Michael Polkinghorne.

Young ICCA Mentoring Programme Co-Director Courtney Furner and former Co-Director Peter Riznik represented Young ICCA at the Vis Moot in Vienna in March 2024, meeting students who will become the next generation of arbitration practitioners to discuss how the Mentoring Programme can assist in their career goals.  Courtney and Peter also took the opportunity to host a coffee catch-up with present and participants of the Mentoring Programme.

Former mentee Vitor Vieira, with support from Young ICCA Mentoring Programme Co-Director Julio Rivera Rios and Young ICCA Co-Chair Eva Chan, organized the first Young ICCA Mentoring Gathering in New York City in April 2024. Sponsored by Analysis Group, Brattle Group, FTI Consulting, and Compass Lexecon, the event brought together mentors, group advisors, mentees, and damages experts to share insights on career development and international arbitration. Mentor Eduardo Zuleta offered valuable advice on building a career in arbitration, making the evening both memorable and insightful for all attendees.

To wrap up the outgoing cycle on a high, an academic retreat will be held in Paris in October 2024 for all 10th cycle participants.  Preparations are well-underway for enriching sessions with practitioners at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Bredin Prat and the ICC.  The retreat, which was inaugurated last year (see the event write up here), offers a unique opportunity for participants to come together and discuss current topics in international arbitration whilst fostering professional development, global networking and cultural understanding.

The smooth running of the Young ICCA Mentoring Programme would not be possible without the tireless efforts of our dedicated Group Advisors: Nelson Chilotam, Marx Ikongbeh, Timothy Hughes, Josh Simmons, Sol Czerwonko, Arie Eernisse, Shravan Yammanur, Eugene Thong, Michael Farchakh, Yvonne Mak, Alessa Pang, Rodrigo Care, Santiago Rodriguez Senior, Patricia Albuquerque Pimentel, Isabel San Martin, Sue Ng, Catherine Wang, Bart Wasiak, Karol Bucki, Vincent Carriou, Daniel McCarthy, Artemis Malliaropoulou, Richard Trinick, Sofia Cozac and Jagpreet Sandhu from the 10th cycle and Sofia Svinkovskaya, Ricardo Gomes, Fabiana Pardi Otamendi, Tetyana Makukha, Magdalena Bulit Goñi, Elena Mihaela Gheorghe, Piotr Paprota, Jake Lowther, Ankita Godbole, Leonardo Ohlrogge, Patrick Fox, Anastasia Medvedskaya, Mihaela Apostol, Joel Dahlquist, Jessica Sien Wai van der Kamp, Cam Tu Vo Nguyen, Mino Han, Hu Ke, Juhi Gupta, Morgane Guyonnet, Angela Abala, Camille Ramos-Klee, Chloe Baldwin, Juan Pablo Moyano Garcia, Jadranka Jakovcic and Fabian Zetina from the 11th cycle.  The Young ICCA Mentoring Programme Co-Directors meet with Group Advisors on a bi-annual basis to discuss their respective groups’ projects and initiatives.
