ICCA Inclusion Fund Now Accepting Applications for Funding to attend ICCA Congress in Edinburgh
ICCA is pleased to announce that its Inclusion Fund is now accepting applications for funding to attend the ICCA Congress in Edinburgh in September 2022.
The ICCA Inclusion Fund was established by the ICCA Inclusiveness Committee pursuant to its Diversity and Inclusion Policy and Diversity and Inclusion Implementation Plan of 11 May 2020. The objective of the Inclusion Fund is to support engagement in ICCA activities for those who do not have adequate means. In 2022, ICCA will fund up to twenty ICCA or Young ICCA members to attend the 25th ICCA Congress in Edinburgh from 18 – 21 September 2022. This funding is provided by ICCA with the generous support of the Congress host, the Scottish Arbitration Centre. Funding will be awarded by the Inclusion Fund in an amount capped at EUR 2,500 per recipient.
Application Requirements
- Applicants must be members of ICCA and/or Young ICCA.
- To apply for funding, applicants must submit (in the form of a single PDF):
1. A letter of motivation including (a) a description of the anticipated benefits of Congress attendance for the applicant’s professional development and (b) a description of the applicant’s financial need (maximum word count: 750 words);
2. A resume or CV. - Applications should be in English or accompanied by a full English translation.
- Applications must be submitted via an application form on ICCA’s website, accessible here, before the deadline of 23:59 (CEST) on 30 June 2022. The application form will also solicit the following information from applicants: first and last name; gender (female, male, or prefer not to specify); nationality; residence; whether the applicant is authorized to practice law in any jurisdiction and if so, which one(s); current profession and affiliation; whether they are members of ICCA or Young ICCA; and contact details.

Selection Process
Funding will be awarded by a Fund Subcommittee (“the Fund Subcommittee”) composed of members of the ICCA Inclusiveness Committee, supported by the ICCA Bureau.
The Fund Subcommittee is composed of:
- Eduardo Zuleta (ICCA Advisory Board member)
- Santiago Dellepiane (Berkeley Research Group)
- Maria Athanasiou (Young ICCA co-chair)
Applications will be evaluated by the Fund Subcommittee according to (but not limited to) the following criteria:
- ICCA’s mission of promoting diversity and inclusion in international dispute resolution and whether applicants represent historically disadvantaged or underrepresented (minority) groups, including in relation to age, colour, disability, ethnicity, gender, indigenous origin, nationality, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status;
- The professions of the applicants, including arbitration practitioners, judges, lawyers in public service, and advanced students who are members of Young ICCA;
- Previous active involvement in ICCA and/or Young ICCA activities; and
- Objective and subjective financial need, assessed pursuant to metrics such as the OECD DAC List of ODA (Aid) Recipients as “least developed countries” or other low-income countries and the personal financial circumstances of applicants.
Funding from the Inclusion Fund is open to applicants of any race, colour, nationality or ethnic origin. However, applicants who are related to ICCA Foundation, Inc. Board Members, ICCA NGO Governing Board Members, Young ICCA Co-Chairs, ICCA Bureau staff members and any individual involved in the Fund Subcommittee’s decision-making process are not eligible to apply.
